Magnesium-based materials are considered as revolutionary metallic biomaterials due to their unique biodegradation in the human body. It is crucial to control the surface degradation of Mg implants after introduction into the human body. The research team in City University of Hong Kong has successfully introduced foreign elements by MEVVA Ion Implanter manufactured by Plasma Technology Limited to control the surface biodegradation rate of Mg alloys. The degradation rate can be either accelerated or decelerated by Zn ions or Cr + O ions implantation respectively. For more information about the Ion Implanter, please browse to the weblink: http://www.plasmatechnol.com/articleShow.asp?ArticleID=429 .Those excellent research works has been published in Materials Letters: (1)" Rapid Degradation of Biomedical Magnesium Induced by Zinc Ion Implantation "; (2)"Controllable Degradation of Biomedical Magnesium by Chromium and Oxygen Dual Ion Implantation ".
